Early Learning to Year 12

Friends of Westminster - Edition 16 - 2021

Boarder Parents’ Association

Once a year, all Boarder parents have an opportunity to meet for a weekend in a region from where some of our Boarding families live. Last year it was held in Wudinna, while this year it was moved to Renmark, after it was felt the over-border Broken Hill option was a bit risky in light of COVID restrictions. In all, it was another amazing weekend, well organised and well attended, particularly given some of the travel restrictions still in place. Next year, all things being equal, the BPA will again go to Broken Hill and there are initial discussions underway that may see the weekend being brought forward to an earlier time in the year. No matter when it is held, you can be assured it will be a wonderfully social event for our regional and rural families to get together with Westminster staff in celebration of all things Boarding.

Westminster School 60th Anniversary Ball

The Parents’ Club Westminster School 60th Anniversary ‘Diamonds are Forever’ Ball is having an Olympics moment in that it has been rescheduled from Saturday 30 October to next year, Saturday 26 March. Despite the change in year, it will still be the 60th Anniversary Ball. The Parents’ Club is wanting to make sure that this celebration is the best it can be and unfortunately the restrictions currently in place don’t readily provide that opportunity. Thank you to everyone who has bought tickets to attend our spectacular event and prepared to support the (second) shift in date. There are still some tickets available and through the Parents’ Club, we will ramp up ticket sales again in the coming months.

Drinking Fountains – gifts from the Parents’ Club

In the coming week, you will see two new drinking fountains installed on the School grounds. One will be in the Senior School Cloisters, the other will replace the fountain on the north-eastern side of the Main Oval. Each will be contactless and the Cloisters fountain will offer chilled water too. These gifts have been made possible through the support shown for the Mother’s Day Lunch we held at the Marion Hotel. We had hoped to continue with our drinking fountain replacement in other parts of the School, using the 60th Anniversary Ball as our main fundraiser to do this, but we are just holding our enthusiasm at bay until we know for sure when we can complete this worthwhile project.
