Music Night 2019 - 'As Time Goes By'

What a fantastic night of music we celebrated recently at Music Night 2019. With almost 140 current students and 26 Old Scholars (which included four Old Scholars assisting our Tech Crew) involved, it was a great collaborative event.

Current ensembles were joined by Old Scholars in a variety of presentations including a wonderful rendition of Queen’s 'Somebody to Love' by Vocal Jazz 1 featuring Vincent Stender (’18) and Gemma Dandie (Year 11 Fereday), Senior Vocal Ensembles 'Keep the Candle Burning' from the 2011 Westminster Green, White and Blues album, featuring the soloist from that album Morgan Welch (’12), and a wonderful version of the Church’s 'Under the Milky Way' played by Big Band 1 and joined by a number of Old Scholars, and sung by Jacqui Yeo (’87).

Our Old Scholars also formed a Vocal group and Rock Band, we had a self composition by Mykaela Podgorski ('15), and an amazing grand piano duet featuring Ting Yun ('13) and Chris Gould! The night finished with some electronic music from Old Scholar duet HARTWAY. Conor Barkway ('12) and Jack Degenhart ('12) displayed their collaboration and recent success of their album 'Motions'. The last two pieces of the night were HARTWAY tunes which included arranged parts for Big Band, vocals and strings. That completed the journey!

Congratulations to all students involved in this performance, all of the music and production team and the Friends of Music for their tireless work. It was wonderful to see the integration of the Old Scholars work and the inspiration this provided to our current scholars.

Finally, thank you to everyone who came along to support our students and Music Night itself.

Music Notes

Congratulations to Katie Natt (Year 8 Forder) who received an A for Grade 1 AMEB Flute.

Vocal Jazz 2

Well done to Vocal Jazz 2 under the direction of Ms Jane Edwards, who performed at 'The Blue Book', this year’s SACE Dance performance. It was great to see and hear live music by Vocal Jazz 2 put to a dance item.
