A Uniting Church coeducational independent day and boarding school on Kaurna Country, Adelaide, South Australia
Early Learning to Year 12
This year's Music Night will be held on Friday 13 September in the MMC. As well as featuring many of our major groups, we will welcome back a number of our Old Scholars - last count was 25! They will join some of our ensembles and do a few items themselves.
This promises to be a wonderful night of music and reminiscing the past, celebrating the present and being excited by the future!
Tickets will be on sale next week via www.trybooking.com/BDGBC.
Please come along and support our past and present students in a great night of music.
On Thursday 29 August the Junior and Senior Rock Bands plus the Senior Jazz Ensemble performed at the Jade Monkey on Flinders Street. It was a wonderful venue for the groups who all performed well. Thanks to all the families and supporters who came along to support these ensembles.
On Friday 6 September we were lucky enough to hold a bassoon workshop with a bassoon honours student from the University of Adelaide, Chris, who bought along his contra-bassoon. Through the initiative of Sam Penny, who teaches bassoon and violin at Westminster, our four bassoon students played in a quartet and all had a shot at producing a sound on the contra bassoon. Our bassoon specialists are pictured below.
It was a pleasure to have a full day of music rehearsals and performances on Open Day last week. The schedule ran as follows:

8.00 - 8.40 am Prep Chapel Choir in the Chapel
9.00 - 11.00 am Bassoon workshop with a visiting guest in Studio 1
11.00 - 12.30 pm Year 3 strings in various venues including the Drama Foyer and Studio 1

This year’s Big Band Bash was held on Sunday 8 September and involved 14 Big Bands from various schools including the Adelaide University Latin Band, with Old Scholar Kiri Gerbi (’18), and Jazz SA Superband 1 with Kyle Chenoweth (’18) and Jasper Cundell (Year 12 Fereday). Westminster Big Band 1 played a couple of tunes in preparation for Music Night this week which included Under the Milky Way by the Church. This was sung by Old Scholar Jacqui Yeo (’87) who will join us this week. Well done to Big Band 1 and many thanks to the parents and families who came along to support the students.
