US Residents
As a U.S. resident, can i give to Westminster School?
Often we are asked by our State-side Old Scholars,
"Can I have a tax deduction?"
The answer now is “YES!!!”
Gifts to Westminster School by alumni, past parents and friends whose incomes are subject to US Income Tax can qualify as tax deductible, provided they're not made directly to the School, but instead in the form of donations to The British Schools and Universities Foundation Inc. of New York (BSUF), a US charitable foundation approved by the US Treasury as tax exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
Donors must specify that their gift is made "with an expression of preference for support of Westminster School, South Australia". BSUF can then make grants in support of Westminster’s development projects (having already determined that funding these projects would be consistent with its own tax exempt purpose).
Easy-to-follow (and vitally important) instructions are found by clicking on the BSUF's website address
http://www.bsuf.org
There you’ll see that donations may be made by check/cheque, by credit card or by transferring securities to the BSUF brokerage account. Donations of securities that have appreciated in price are especially advantageous, because the donor receives credit for the current market price, but escapes taxation of any capital gain. You can use these facilities to give to our Annual Giving campaign or to our Major Gift campaign as outlined in the Giving to Westminster section of our website.
There are no charges for using the services of BSUF, and its officers and directors are volunteers who serve without remuneration of any kind. During forty-four years of operation, BSUF has made grants totalling US$28 million (or nearly US$40 million in current dollars) to educational, scientific and literary organisations throughout the former British Commonwealth.
We are really excited that we can now provide these facilities for you to help Westminster.
We welcome your support
