SCHOLARSHIPS AT WESTMINSTER

Scholarships for entry at the start of 2013 are now closed except for the
Year 5 Entry Scholarship and the Lawrence and Haese Scholarship for Mathematics which close on Thursday 5 April.

Year 5 Entry Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded annually to a new or existing student entering Year 5 at Westminster School. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of performance in a test, involvement in activities and an interview. The scholarship is for one-third of the tuition fee per annum for the final three years of primary schooling at Westminster Preparatory School (Years 5, 6
and 7).

Lawrence and Haese Scholarship for Mathematics

This scholarship is for a new student entering Year 10 or Year 11 at Westminster School in 2013. The scholarship will be awarded to an excellent mathematician who displays outstanding personal qualities. The selection criteria include outstanding performance in Mathematics competitions and all-round ability in other academic areas (non-maths) to benefit from the whole academic program offered by Westminster School. There will be an examination. The need of the family may also be taken into account. This scholarship provides a 50 per cent remission of tuition fees per annum for Years 10 and/or 11 and Year 12.

All scholarships will reopen in September 2012 for 2014 entry.

Year 8 Academic Scholarships, including the Brad Selway Memorial Scholarship and Bradley Fenner Scholarship

These scholarships are awarded on the basis of performance in the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) Australian Cooperative Entry Program (ACEP) examination for students generally entering Year 8 in 2014. This examination is open to existing Westminster School students and to other students who wish to attend Westminster School. Under the Year 8 Academic Scholarship program, one or more full scholarships and several part scholarships for five years of secondary schooling are available each year. The top academic full scholarship, awarded to a new or existing student entering Year 8 at Westminster School, is known as the Brad Selway Memorial Scholarship. The Bradley Fenner Scholarship will provide 50 per cent fee remission from Years 8 to 12 and will be awarded to a student in need from the results of these scholarship exams. The examination will be held at the School on Saturday morning 11 February 2012 or at other venues around Australia and overseas.

Other Westminster Scholarships

Westminster School has a range of other scholarships on offer each year and these are awarded based on the fulfilment of specific criteria. The level of remission and year level of entry into Westminster School are also specific to each scholarship.

Croser Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded annually to a new student entering Year 8 at Westminster School in 2013. Therefore the student must be in Year 6 this year i.e. 2011. It is for an all-rounder who displays outstanding personal qualities and ability, in both academic and co-curricular areas, including sport. The selection process will involve an interview for short-listed candidates. This scholarship provides a 50 per cent remission of tuition fees per annum for five years from Years 8 to 12.

Fricker Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded annually to a new or existing student entering Year 8 at Westminster School in 2013. Therefore the student must be in Year 6 this year i.e. 2011. It places emphasis on being able to make a significant contribution to the life of the School in Performing Arts, especially in one or more of Music, Drama or Dance. An interview and audition will be required. This scholarship provides a 50 per cent remission of tuition fees per annum for five years from Years 8 to 12.

Boarding Scholarships, including the Clifford Boomsma Boarding Scholarship

Normally, two scholarships are awarded each year to new boarding students entering Years 7 to 10 at Westminster School in 2013. Therefore the student must be in Year 5 to Year 8 this year i.e. 2011. Each scholarship provides 50 per cent remission of the boarding fees per annum until the end of Year 12, but does not include tuition fees. They will be awarded to all-rounders who display outstanding personal qualities and ability, in both the academic and co-curricular areas. One of the scholarships is reserved for a son or daughter of an ICPA (Isolated Children’s Parents’ Association of Australia) member.

Robert Fraser All-Rounder Scholarships

Normally two scholarships are awarded annually to new students entering Year 10 or Year 11 at Westminster School in 2013. Therefore the student must be in Year 8 or Year 9 this year i.e. 2011. These are for all-rounders who display outstanding personal qualities and ability in both academic and co-curricular areas, including sport and/or performing or visual arts. The selection process will involve an interview for short-listed candidates. Each scholarship provides a 50 per cent remission of tuition fees per annum for two or three years.

Old Scholars’ Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to a student entering Year 10 at Westminster School in 2013. Therefore the student must be in Year 8 this year i.e. 2011. The student must be the son or daughter of an Old Scholar. The scholarship will be given based on outstanding personal qualities and ability in both the academic and co-curricular areas. There will be no examination. A short list of candidates will be interviewed. The scholarship provides for 30 per cent remission of the tuition fee per annum for Years 10, 11 and 12. The intention is that any family can benefit only once from this scholarship.

Scholarship Application Requirements

If you are interested in having your child sit for a scholarship, please register by following the procedure outlined below, no later than Friday 13th January 2012. Registrations received after this date will incur a late fee.

Details of Testing

The scholarship examination will be held on Saturday 11th February 2012 beginning at 8.45 a.m.

At Westminster, we are pleased to offer scholarships that are designed for students in their final year of primary school during 2012, for entry into first year of secondary school in 2013.
